Referee #2 for Grappling Industries Toronto July 20!
21 Referees in 21 Days:
Referee #2 Tony Isaacs
I first met Mr. Isaacs when I was about 13 years old. We have always had a lot of respect for him because of his passion for and dedication to BJJ. Most people will read Grappling Industries comments and believe them to be negative when really they are our broadest opinions, and really just that; our own opinions. We really put them out there so others can ask questions and we can all unite in a proper debate, not a discussion where we are accused of Marxist theories. Having discussed tournaments a lot with Mr. Isaacs, many of our opinions of what must exist in a perfect tournament are identical and many theories we follow are similar to his.
The reason we selected Mr. Isaacs though has only to do with his knowledge of the IBJJF rules, his training, and the experience he brings to the table as a referee. He is IBJJF certified and trained, a BJJ Black Belt, co-promoter of Canada’s biggest individual Gi event the GTA Classic (Formerly known as the Bravado Open), as well is a very experienced, knowledgeable, and respected referee. Tony is a board member as well at the Ontario Jiu-Jitsu Association and is usually the one responsible for staff hiring at OJA events. The move to acquire him as a referee for this event was not political but technical and that has been discussed already with him. We simply want to put together the most experienced Ontario BJJ Referee Team we can get our hands on to assure our competitors and spectators that we want our events to be as fair and unbiased as possible. This we are sure is something everybody can respect.
