The Most Impressive Thing We Ever Did?
Article by David Aguzzi, Grappling Industries Co-owner.
There’s a lot left for us to do, we have only really started to get our feet wet when you really think about it. Some people would say it is giving away so many trips or being one of Canada’s few tournaments to build such a tournament asset base and be willing to expand anywhere tournaments occur. Some would argue the organizational aspects of Grappling Industries is very strong being that they have proven they can run a round robin format tournament giving everyone 4 fights yet staying on a schedule. I though otherwise to be honest, most of those other things can be easily figured out with experience but not everything can be figured out that way.
I really do think as far as impression, the coolest thing we ever have done till today is being Ontario’s only true independent tournament along with the IBJJF. To be able to budget our own insurance fees thus dropping the insurance fees off the competitor’s registration along with properly budgeting our taxes and paypal fees in the registration fees so we don’t need to charge that to competitor as well. Then for October 26 coming up, just completely drop the fees everywhere, prices have gone down $15 for adults and $10 for kids and juniors; we are almost back to our 2012 prices in theory. I really think addressing competitor’s biggest issues which is their cash might be the coolest thing we have ever done yet.
I’m looking forward to the October 26 tournament to see how it all plays out. In 2012 this edition of our tournament was the highest drawing and highest grossing regardless of it’s lower fees to compete in or spectate than most of our 2013 season. This is a great way we believe to end our 2013 season in fashion especially with 5 trips on the line to the Pans; which we continue to prove we as well will always give out the most trips anywhere we go because we believe part of a tournament’s budget should be reinvested back into that tournament’s top performers of the day regardless if they are a white belt or black belt.
